What makes us truly different is that members of our community don’t pay a fixed premium every year, but only share the true cost of claims incurred by the community. Simple, but truly disruptive (Sorry for the D-word).
Every month Laka helps community members in need - when their gear is damaged or stolen. At the end of the month all costs are split between the community, but each member’s premium is capped at market rate. Instead of paying hefty margins, our customers know they will always get the best price for great cover.
The first thing we have chosen to insure are high-end bicycles. For that we have assembled a community of keen cyclists who protect each other’s bikes against whatever happens.

We went from concept to regulated business with a live product in 12 months. On the way, we joined fantastic ecosystems such as Anthemis’ Fellowship program and Startupbootcamp InsurTech, gathering a stellar host of business angels around us.
Recently, we have completed our Seed round (link), led by Malaysian financial services group Tune Protect, which has close ties to AirAsia. One of the leading early-stage investors, 500 Startups, has joined the round. Together, they will support our international expansion to South-East Asia.
We’re currently a team of 10, so everyone is vitally important to our success. You’ll be working directly with the company founders and will get to experience life in a startup company as we scale! We encourage you to get involved with any aspect of the business you are interested in. T-shaped people are the best!
Our office is in Oxford Circus, but we are flexible and understand sometimes you just need to work from home or wherever inspires you the most.
The specifics (including the final title) of the role will vary depending on your experience, but in any case, it will grow with you. We want bright people to join us on our journey.
Ideally you can hit the ground running, have an interest in learning new things, and are comfortable working in a (constantly!) changing environment.
As the Insurance Lead, you will be responsible for all things insurance, i.e. leading the development and roll-out of new insurance products. Our ambition is to become a leading lifestyle insurer: sports equipment, music instruments, or high-value equipment like cameras come to mind as possible next products. The next step after that is to move from things to people, and focus on personal accident, dental or travel insurance.
Product development includes market research, engagement with insurance partners and regulators, development of policy wording, and more. You will know what is required better than us.
As a startup, we have many opportunities we’d like to seize but it’s important that you have a clear focus on what really moves the needle for Laka.
We bet you’ve got a ton of ideas of what Laka’s product road map should look like, and we want you to lead these efforts.
Be decisive and business-savvy with the ability to demonstrate solid problem solving, decision-making and analytical capabilities. Have an intrinsic understanding of what ‘good’ looks like, from the development of a strategy through to the final pitch deck all the way to a final solution.
We are looking for an experienced insurance professional that knows their way around the UK insurance market.
Whether your background is broking, underwriting, product management or otherwise, we are most excited about enthusiastic, highly-motivated self-starters with a strong focus on execution.
Ideally you have previously rolled out products that fit our lifestyle focus and understand customer behaviour and requirements in relevant (niche) markets.

You pay a monthly fee which is your share of all claims from people like you. No claims mean your share is zero.
If it comes to a claim there are no more surprises. We work with you towards a common goal: get back what has been lost and fix what has been broken. We only get paid when we deliver on this promise.
